Road Resurfacing and Line Marking at Slaley Hall – Phase 2 Completion
Following the successful completion of the initial planing works at Slaley Hall—a luxury hotel and golf resort set in the heart of the Northumberland countryside – Debmat Surfacing was delighted to return for the next major milestone: resurfacing the estate’s main access road and completing the job with fresh, clean line marking.
Phase two was all about quality and durability. Our objective was to not only enhance the visual appeal of the road but also significantly improve its performance and lifespan, ensuring it could handle day-to-day traffic while maintaining the high standards expected of such a prestigious location.
Stone Mastic Asphalt Surfacing for Durable Roads at Slaley Hall
With the old surface planed back during phase one, we began this stage by prepping the road for a brand-new surface. A bonding layer was applied to promote strong adhesion between the existing base and the new asphalt. This step is essential, creating a watertight seal that reduces the risk of cracks and potholes appearing down the line.
We then moved on to laying 600 tonnes of Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA)—a material specifically selected for its resilience and strength. SMA is widely recognised in the surfacing industry for its ability to handle high traffic volumes and harsh weather without deteriorating. It also offers a smoother ride and a high-end finish, both important for a client like Slaley Hall where presentation and practicality go hand-in-hand.
Supplying and Laying Asphalt: Collaboration with Tynedale Roadstone
We’re proud to have collaborated once again with Tynedale Roadstone, who supplied the high-quality asphalt for this job. Their consistent product quality and reliable delivery service played a key part in helping us meet both the performance and aesthetic goals of the project.
The surfacing operation itself was carried out using our precision paving machinery and experienced team on the ground. Timing and coordination are vital at this stage, especially when working with hot asphalt. The material needs to be delivered, spread, levelled, and compacted while still at temperature to ensure proper bonding and a flawless finish.
We laid and compacted the SMA across the full 900-metre stretch with great attention to detail, making sure the final surface was smooth, uniform, and ready for years of reliable service.
Road Line Marking on Newly Resurfaced Driveway at Slaley Hall
Once the asphalt had cured sufficiently, we returned to site for the final step – line marking. Although the markings themselves may appear simple, they play a vital role in directing traffic and improving safety throughout the estate.
Our team used high-performance thermoplastic paint, which is both durable and highly visible in all weather conditions. The markings were applied with precision and care, ensuring everything aligned with the newly resurfaced road and complemented the upgraded look of the approach to Slaley Hall.
Eco-Friendly Road Surfacing: Recycling Planed Material
A big part of modern surfacing work is sustainability, and we were pleased to contribute in a small but meaningful way on this project. The material planed during phase one wasn’t simply disposed of – it was fully recycled, helping to reduce environmental impact and promote a circular approach to road construction.
