Amerex Ltd is a specialist in steel trading and distribution, supplying high-quality reinforcing and structural steel to industries such as construction and manufacturing. Their operations require robust infrastructure, including high-load-bearing surfaces to accommodate the movement of heavy vehicles and materials. To support their business growth and improve logistical efficiency, Amerex Ltd needed an expanded tarmac area at their facility.
Debmat Surfacing Ltd was entrusted with the task of excavating, preparing, and surfacing the new area to meet high standards of durability and functionality.

The project commenced with the excavation of an existing grass area, removing approximately 500mm of soil to reach the new formation level. This process ensured a solid foundation for the subsequent layers of material, improving the structural integrity of the final surface.
2. Perimeter Kerbing Installation
To provide clear boundaries and support drainage, we installed a half-batter concrete road kerb around the perimeter of the excavation. The kerb was laid with a strong concrete bed and haunching, reinforcing the edge stability of the newly surfaced area.
3. Laying a Robust Sub-Base
A vital component of the project was establishing a durable foundation. We supplied and laid a 350mm Type 1 granular sub-base, compacted thoroughly to provide a stable base for the tarmac layers.
4. High-Durability Asphalt Surfacing
The surfacing process involved the application of:
- 100mm thick heavy-duty dense binder course – ensuring strength and longevity.
- 50mm thick 10mm stone mastic asphalt (SMA) – providing a smooth, weather-resistant surface ideal for heavy-duty use.
