Surfacing the North East since 1979
1979. A cold February morning
Three redundant Tarmac employees, Ernie Turner, Mike Buggy and Alan Duggan establish DEBMAT Surfacing as a limited company. Their first job? A new staff car park for the now demolished Wylam Hospital.
1983. Newcastle Airport Runway
Our first ‘Big Job!’..Woolsington Airport’s expansion into the international hub it is today, required a new parallel taxiway to be constructed in order to “speed aircraft turnaround times and greatly simplify ground manoeuvres”. Read more: Newcastle Airport Tarmacing
1990. Debmat Diamonds

1995. A new era begins..
With the retirement of the original DEBMAT founders, Managing Directors, John Turner and David Buggy take over the reigns…
2019. DEBMAT House Remodel
In order to keep up with a rapidly expanding client portfolio, DEBMAT House is completely redesigned as a modern open plan office space. Catering for improved workflows, and with the aim of providing a better environment for our staff and customers, the new DEBMAT House remodel proves a great success.
2022. New Website Launches
We launch a new more informative website at DebmatSurfacing.co.uk, with an expanded product range listing and easier to browse past project portfolio.
2023. RHD Acquisition
RHD Construction & Environmental Contractors Ltd becomes part of the DEBMAT family.
Established in 2013, RHD offer clients a full range of services within the civil engineering, environmental improvement and the sports and leisure sectors.
